Newall Green Team Members

Margaret

Hello, my name is Margaret Salmon. I have attended this Church for over 30 years and have served as both the church secretary and a Deacon. Currently, I serve as a Deacon and am also the person to contact if you wish to book the church hall or a room in the building.

We are a welcoming bunch and would love to have you join us.

God bless and hope to see you soon.

Francisca

My name is Francisca Osaikhuiwu. I am one of the deacons at NGBC. I love Newall Green Baptist Church because of the diversity and the love that binds us members together. My duties include preparing the church cleaning rota and the prayer meeting rotas. I also support my fellow deacons with the weekly cashing up duties.

I sometime lead Sunday services, which I love, and the Wednesday’s prayer meeting, (online) which we started during the pandemic. This is a platform where we pray for the church and brethren’ need and intercede for one another. We are a close knit family church and all are welcome to join our family.

Del

My name is Del Fletcher. I’ve been in Newall Green Baptist church since the late 1960’s. I became a deacon and helped with many aspects of the church and the community by organising social events for the church, and the annual Christmas gifts for the children. As well as actively being involved in supporting the church’s commitment to contribute to different charities and local causes in Wythenshawe throughout the year.

I occasionally lead the Sunday services which I enjoy. I feel empowered by this and hope to be a role model for other church members.

In Newall Green Baptist church, as a group, we thrive and give strength to each other as a community.

Elizabeth

I have been a member of Newall Green Baptist Church since I was a little girl and now I am retired! I even celebrated my marriage in the church which was one of the most memorable days of my life.

My calling to serve God is something I am proud of and I do this as an active Deacon.  My contributions include organising the diary for events & members birthdays and preparing communion services.

I am quite camera shy but I more than make up for that with my contributions to the running of our Sunday services.”

Hal

My late wife, Joy and I always considered ourselves as Christians and in December 1993 we were baptised by full immersion. It was a day to remember. Upon moving back to Woodhouse Park to look after my mum, we looked for a place to worship.  Brownley Green was the right fit for us and we soon became members. After some years, we asked to move into and take care of the St Francis Church vicarage in Newall Green.  As St Francis had an ecumenical link with churches in Newall Green, and after much thought and prayer, in 2004 we decided to transfer our Baptist membership to Newall Green Baptist Church where we were welcomed with open arms.

I thank all our members and attendees for being my extended family which was so important when my darling wife, Joy, passed away at the end of 2022. This gave me the strength I needed at the time to help me mourn her death and celebrate her life and the life we had together.

Over the years at Newall Green Baptist Church having lived so close, Joy and I were happy to take on extra roles such as key holders. Quite handy on many occasions when members had forgotten their keys at home on a Sunday morning!

I have always been a keen speaker and in church, I take an active role in Sunday services and regularly do bible readings and prayers. Being able to share Christ’s love with everyone is a Joy to me.

Janet

I went to St Francis church at 29 and within two weeks, I met Newell Green Baptist Church, at our Morning Service. We went to the Baptist Church on an Evening Service I was asked to read from a huge bible and I was very scared, but everyone was wonderful and it felt very special. I made so many new friends.

We met together at socials such as hoe- downs, fairs & special services. When St Francis was closing, my dad, Eric and I were invited to a planning worship group by the rev Chris Shelley, the minister at the time. My dad went to the Baptist church every week and I went every other week because I was needed at St Martin’s church, as I was one of only 2 lay administrators.

My dad & I both became members of our Baptist Church. Over the years I met so many people at our Baptist Church. So many special people in my life. Enjoying services & events, plays, holiday retreats in the Scottish Isle of Iona & other trips out, as well as our prayer groups. I hope I have many more.

I feel so much love for everyone there.

Mike & Family

We found Newall Green Baptist Church during a major transition in our lives. We had just moved all the way from London with a baby on the way, and it we’re thankful to the Lord and the congregation for making us feel welcome.

We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone from the ministers all the way to the church workers – may Newall Green Baptist Church reach more souls in need for years to come.

Vera

I can remember the first day I came to Newall Green Baptist Church. I was welcomed into this lovely family by the Rev Malcolm Purdy who was the minister here for over 40 years

I have served as a Deacon for many years.
